JEDI Medicine: Naturopathic Medicine and Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
One hour general or cultural competency CE approved by OANP.
Naturopathic medicine provides a unique opportunity for practitioners to provide culturally informed and responsive care utilizing a “JEDI” lens. Experiences in healthcare settings for minoritized populations have been fraught with stories of fear, inadequate care and/or distrust. The impact of racism and discrimination on the delivery of healthcare has a long and unfortunate history and has been well documented in literature. Perceived or real, negative experiences in healthcare settings contribute to health inequities and disparities, injury, and in the most unfortunate cases, death. Regardless of system of medicine or discipline, there remains significant need for medical practitioners to create welcoming environments and deliver quality care that is inclusive and culturally relevant. With that as the end goal, we must explore the necessary factors to make that type of healthcare environment and delivery a reality. This and more will be explored during this presentation.
